Warren Eugene "Gene" Sullivan, 96, of Prue, Oklahoma, formerly of Claremore, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Friday, June 19, 2025, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Gene Sullivan was born April 25, 1929, in Claremore, Oklahoma to Jeffery Sullivan and Sara (Liddie) Sullivan. He attended school in the Claremore area up to the eighth grade. Gene grew up with six siblings (all girls). When Gene was a little boy on the farm, his family would hook up their covered wagon and head into town. At 13, he wanted to go to town, but the Model "A" car was torn apart. His mother told him that if he could fix it, he could go to town. Gene rebuilt that car, and off he went.
Gene ran his own construction business for years. He framed houses and poured concrete. In later years he went to work for Suburban Chevrolet in Claremore. Gene owned his own farm where he ran cattle and fished in his pond. He loved fishing for Croppie. He also owned a tavern in Claremore.
Gene fell in love with Alice "Sue" Hastings, and they got married in Miami, Oklahoma, on October 26, 1984. Gene had his hand in lots of things; he raised birds, including turkeys and quail. He loved to garden. He had lots of hummingbirds on his farm that he fed. He also loved his two dogs, Penny and Sassie. Gene was well loved by everyone, and they all called him "Papa Gene."
Gene Sullivan is survived by his two children Linda (Tracy) Carpenter and Joe Hastings; four grandchildren Kasey (Brad) Taylor, Caitlyn (Adam) Owens, Jeremy Hastings and Matt Schoeder; and many grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Sue sullivan, by his parents Jeffery Sullivan and Sara Sullivan; six sisters.
The family will be celebrating Gene's life at a later date. Arrangements were made by Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Cleveland, Oklahoma.
