Sarah Irene Daniel passed away on May 3, 2025, at the age of 95, in Drumright, Oklahoma.
Irene was born on May 22, 1929, in Bernice, Oklahoma, the daughter of Denver Clarence and Mary Ann (Hodge) Ballenger. Irene grew up and attended school in Terlton and Jennings, where she completed her education. Following high school, Irene worked as a waitress for many years and was united in marriage to Robert McCollum. Irene and William Edward Hashbarger were united in marriage and soon purchased the Hominy Café, and the two operated that for several years. Then, following the café sale, Irene started working at the flower shop in Hominy. The two later purchased Katie's Café in Cleveland, operating it for several years. Irene later worked at Munsingwear in Hominy before opening Irene's Café, then opened Poor Boys in Jennings. Irene worked at Yale for her nephew at the café, then later for Katrina in Jennings at Burger Time for several years. In 1996, Irene was united in marriage to Carl Daniel. Irene always enjoyed gardening, dancing, and making sure people were doing things right.
Her nieces and nephews are survivors. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Denver and Mary Ballenger; three husbands, Robert McCollum, William Hashbarger, and Carl Daniel; siblings Viola Mae Cox, Ava Belle Kizer, and Jimmy Ballenger; an infant sister, Dovie Ballenger, and two nephews, Denny Cox and John Kizer.
The services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Jennings Cemetery in Jennings, Oklahoma.
