Robert Dale Hillsberry was born November 1, 1948 to Atchie Lee and Nellie Hillsberry and left this world on May 13, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents Atchie Lee (Cotton) and Nellie, his brother Terry Hillsberry and wife Barbara, brother Marvin Hillsberry and sister Linda Willcox and husband James and his niece Terry Lynn Hillsberry. He is survived by his wife, Eunice, his children, Bryan Hillsberry, James and Shelley Berry and his grandchildren James Berry III and Avery Berry and Tanner Hulbert. His brother Richard Couffer and wife Teresa and sister Regina Stallsworth and husband Gene, sister in law Dorthy Harrell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Robert grew up in Sand Springs,OK and met Eunice Leverett when he was 17 years old at the Longhorn Dance Hall. They got married June 5, 1967, when he was 18 and she was 21. Days after they wed, Robert left for Vietnam where he served for a year. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1970 where he rose to the rank of Sergeant at the age of 18. He was fondly referred to as "Huck" by his platoon members.
When Robert returned from service, he and Eunice made their home in Sand Springs. They later moved to Lake Keystone and built their dream home in the country where Robert could have horses, chickens and cows. He always loved having animals. He also enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting and fishing.
They raised two children, Bryan and Shelley. Robert and Eunice were very active with their children at Cleveland Schools. They established the Keystone 4H club with other neighbors and helped dozens of kids learn the love of farming.
Robert was a huge booster to the Cleveland football and wrestling programs. Even years after the kids graduated, the wrestling team voted him their biggest fan as he never missed a meet or a chance to support them. Robert also loved to support OSU wrestling and driving old cars. He was proud of his 1955 Bel Aire and shared his love of cars with his family. He bought his daughter a 1966 mustang for her 16th birthday and she still drives it today. His son he graced with a 1966 Chevelle and his grandson a 1956 Chevy truck. He was so proud when they all went to a car show together.
As much as he loved raising his family, his heart beamed when he had grandchildren. James and Avery were his pride and joy. He never missed a baseball game for James, a softball game or play of Avery's. No matter the activity, he was there front and center to support them and cheer them on. He loved going to Hanna to watch the kids on the farm and spend the holidays with them. Even when going to ball games became difficult, he insisted on being there to cheer on his grandchildren.
Robert leaves behind his sense of humor, his beaming smile and his love of family. He was a shining example of how to be a good person, how to love your spouse and how to be a father, grandfather and friend.
