Phelps C. Hemphill, known to his friends and family as Dick passed from this life on April 1, 2023 at the age of 91 in Claremore, Oklahoma.


Dick was born on July 16, 1931, in Tulsa, Oklahoma the son of Bert and Gladys (Lamb) Hemphill. Dick grew up and attended school in Tulsa completing school at Tulsa Central High School. At the age of 17, Dick joined the United States Navy serving during World War II. After his honorable discharge Dick returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked at Bethlehem Steel and later began driving a truck with his father. In the early 1960's, Dick worked as a police officer in Liberal, Kansas and later accepted a position with the Jenks Police Department. While working at the Tulsa Sheriffs Office Dick met Barbara Ann Laws and the two were united in marriage on August 13, 1981 in Miami, Oklahoma. They established their initial home in Tulsa before moving to Terlton in 1983, where he has continued to reside.


Survivors include four children Teresa Booker of Cleveland, Oklahoma, David Hemphill of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Doug C. Hemphill of Cleveland, Oklahoma; several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Dick was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Hemphill and one son Dale Hemphill.


Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday April 7, 2023, at the Woodland Cemetery. The burial will be held in the Woodland Cemetery.
