Patricia Culter

Patricia Ann Woodall Culter was born in Tahlequah, OK, on August 8, 1937, to Anna June and L.B. Woodall. She grew up in Shawnee, Welty and Bristow, where she went to school. She loved spending time at the grandparents' farm in Welty with her sister and cousins. She was a proud member of the Bristow High School Band, where she served as band queen her senior year. One of Pat's best memories from high school was being a member of the Harmonettes choral group, which was invited to travel and perform in Chicago, Detroit (where they performed at a convention honoring Vice President Richard Nixon), New York and Washington, DC.

Pat attended A & M (now OSU) and Tulsa University. Pat met her husband, John, at church camp and they were married in 1957. Their daughters, Karen and Shawna, were born in Ponca City. Pat participated in the Ponca City theater group and was a substitute teacher in the local school system.

Following a divorce, Pat obtained her teaching certificate and moved to Cleveland, OK with her girls to teach fifth grade at Westside Elementary. Pat was an avid school activities attendee with or for her daughters and could always be counted on to be seen grading papers at most of them. The Culter family were active members of the First Christian Church, where many of the members were considered dear family friends. Pat retired after teaching 35 years in the Cleveland school system. She then enjoyed her retirement years by joining her many friends in social groups, going to musicals in Tulsa, and still attending school activities.

In 2020, Pat moved to Colorado to live with her daughter, Karen. She immediately joined Valley View Christian Church and became active in church activities. She continued her love of education and teaching by tutoring at a local school for the first few years. Pat was delighted when her daughter, Shawna, also moved to Colorado to be close to family. She was then able to enjoy spending time with her girls doing some of her favorite things: attending shows and concerts, taking the annual aspens-viewing drive through the mountains, being spoiled with birthday train-riding days, etc.

Pat passed peacefully from this life on July 19, 2025. She is survived by her daughters Karen and Shawna, grandson Zachary (Emily) Thomson, great-grandson Cedar Thomson, sister Phyllis Karen Lowe, and many beloved cousins.
