Oscar Whitewing, Jr.

December 22, 1935 — September 10, 2001

Oscar Whitewing, Jr.

Oscar Whitewing, Jr., lifetime resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, joined our Lord on Monday, September 10, 2001. Oscar suffered a fatal heart attack as he and his wife, Joyce, were enjoying a short trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. They were planning to celebrate their forty-sixth wedding anniversary on September 12, 2001.
Oscar was born on December 22, 1935, in Hominy, Oklahoma, to Katie Lee and Oscar Whitewing, Sr. He owned and operated the Dairyland Drivein in Hominy for twenty-five years, and also had a variety of other enterprises. He loved ranching, and ranched many years of his life. He was laid to rest on September 14, 2001. The memorial service was held in the First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mark Wright officiating. The soloist was Karen Crawford and the organist was Joel Jackson. Oscarís niece, Linda Pounds of Norman, Oklahoma, made a beautiful tribute to Oscar for the wonderful years the family and friends had enjoyed, loved and learned from him. Interment was at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma.
Oscar was a member of the First Baptist Church, and served as Treasurer for the HHS Community Project (Save our School). He was an avid Hominy Buck and OU football fan. He has been an OU Donor for many years and a Hominy Buck Booster. Oscar was a great friend to many and a full supporter of many philanthropic projects. He collected funds from Hominy businesses for the American Cancer Society for many years, worked hard on the building of the first swimming pool in Hominy, and he was always on hand for holidays to make sure the American flags were flying on time and taken in on time. He proved to be a good leader early in life as he served his class in Hominy High School as their president for three years. He worked hard for school reunions as he and his wife always have an open house for at least 100 people each reunion. He will be sorely missed!
Oscar is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home, daughter Mandi of Tulsa, son David of Tulsa, grandson John Briley of Kansas City, Missouri, and grandsons, Samuel, Benjamin and William Rice, all of Tulsa, and a host of friends from coast to coast.
The funeral service was Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, OK.
