Melvin Thomas Shelton passed from this life on September 27, 2023, at the age of 83, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.


Melvin was born on July 23, 1940, in Drumright, Oklahoma, the son of Theodore and Nellie (Madewell) Shelton. Melvin grew up and attended school in Drumright. Melvin joined the United States Army in September of 1958. He served his country in Germany for nearly three years and returned to Drumright in August 1961. Melvin was soon united in marriage to Linda Davidson on March 16, 1962, in Oilton, Oklahoma. The couple built their initial Drumright home and he began working on a drilling rig. Several years later, Melvin and Linda moved to Title Camp South of Drumright, where they lived for many years. In 1982, Linda and Melvin moved to their current home South of Cleveland. Melvin worked for several companies in the area, including Virgil Brown Well Service, Oklahoma Tool, Drumright Well Service, and Robinowitz Oil Company.


Melvin enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping in their homemade campers. He served as a Deacon since February 27, 2000, at the Terlton Baptist Church. Melvin also enjoyed playing the harmonica for his friends and family.


Survivors are his wife Linda of the home, grandchildren Russell Elledge of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Lucas Elledge of Covington, Oklahoma, Jesse Elledge of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Thomas Shelton, Amber Shelton, Keisha Shelton, numerous great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Nellie Shelton, siblings Theodore Shelton, Jr., Dean Shelton, Brady Shelton, Bill Shelton, Danny Shelton, Georgia Thornbrue, Kaydell Ryker, infant brother Harold Lee Shelton, two sons Mike and Marvin Shelton, daughter Tammy Walls.


Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 2, 2023, at the Terlton First Baptist Church with Pastor Justin White officiating.

The burial will be in the Terlton Cemetery at Terlton, Oklahoma, with Chapman-Black Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Melvin at www.chapman-black.com.
