Lela was born January 17, 1936 in Cimarron, Oklahoma, the youngest daughter of Edward Robert and Tennie Taylor Carter. She graduated from Cleveland High School in Oklahoma and then completed a year at a business school in Tulsa. Her first employment was in the auditing department of Sears, where she met her husband William Inderlied. Lela and William were joined in marriage June 1, 1957. As a newlywed she continued her work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture until two years later they started a family and she chose to be a stay at home mom. Together they raised five boys. They were blessed with eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Lela actively supported and participated in all of her son’s academic and sporting activities, and spent many weeks at the lake skiing, fishing, and also snow skiing in Colorado. In between those activities, she gave of herself by volunteering her services at local hospitals, schools, church, and as a Cub Scout Den Mother.
After her husband Bill retired, the two of them sold their home in West Texas, bought an RV, and enjoyed traveling the U.S and Canada together. They also participated in church building mission work during this time. They eventually settled down and made their home in Fairview, Texas where they were avid golfers.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her parents, her brother Bob Carter, her sisters Clara Jean Ross and Cletus Gilbert, her son Greg, daughter-in-law Cindy, and great granddaughter Braylee.
Lela loved and was loved by her family and will be missed by them. Lela leaves to cherish her memory her sons Bill (Roxanne), Michael (Eileen), Darren, and David (Deborah).
Of all her accomplishments, Lela also fought the good fight of faith and now has finished her race. Like those before her, she has kept the faith even unto the end, confessing Christ crucified and risen again for her. Lela has now received the crown of life which Jesus promised, “Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Rev 2:10.
A memorial service with family will be held at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
