Larry Gene Johnson passed from this life on February 8, 2026, at the age of 74 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Larry was born on August 14, 1951, in Denison, Texas. He was the son of Dudley Leon and Cora Fern (Hedgecock) Johnson. Larry grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and attended Central High School. Larry began working odd jobs, and in 1986, he accepted a driving job with Ark Wrecking. On July 12, 1997, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Larry was united in marriage to Cherilynn Mae Smith. The couple spent their honeymoon in Tunica, Mississippi, before returning to Tulsa, where they made their initial home. Larry worked at Ark Wrecking until 2003, when he retired as a heavy equipment operator. In 2008, Larry and Cheri moved to Cleveland after residing in Broken Arrow. Going to the lake, fishing, taking his Baby Dallas for a walk, or just being outdoors were things he enjoyed. Playing dominoes and visiting with Virgil were weekly events. Larry always liked going to his sons' wrestling matches, which were also high on his list of things to do. He is described as very frugal and a huge Dallas Cowboys fan.
Survivors are his five children, Tina Neal, Cheryl Bingham-Johnson, Timothy Johnson, Crystal Burks, Shelly Luttrell; siblings Betty Voumard, Judy Lee, Ernest Johnson; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and his pet Chihuahua, Baby Dallas, whom he adored. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Cheri, three siblings, Jimmy Johnson, James Johnson, and Peggy Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel, with Dusty Giles officiating. The burial will be held at the Sinnett Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
