Obituary

Kalyn Jean "Honey" Quimby passed from this life on April 2, 2026, at the age of 67 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

It is often said of people that pass, that they would "light up a room." Kalyn was one of those people! But, Kalyn also made sure you knew she was coming to that room before she ever got there. And somehow, that was exactly what everyone loved most.

Kalyn never met a stranger. If she knew you, you heard about it, loud and proud, from across the room, the store, or the parking lot. Her cheerful "Hi!" and her way of calling out to friends, sometimes before they even saw her, became her signature. She wasn't just friendly; she made people feel seen. And in a world that moves too fast, that was her quiet (or not so quiet!) superpower. Kalyn knew everyone and knew they mattered.

Born on June 12, 1958, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kalyn was the daughter of K. Don and H. Jean (Tisher) Hammond. She was raised in Cleveland, Oklahoma, where she proudly graduated with the Class of 1976.

Even in high school, Kalyn, a natural beauty, was already what she would always be: a cheerleader in every sense of the word. She was active in cheerleading, crowned Homecoming Queen, named second runner-up in the Keystone Lake Pageant, and, perhaps most fitting of all, voted Miss Congeniality by her peers. She didn't just stand on the sidelines cheering for others, she carried that spirit into every stage of her life.

She was involved in the First Baptist Church youth group and shared her love of music as part of the all-girls quartet, "Charity."

Throughout her life, Kalyn worked in a variety of places, including Cleveland Lease, Clyde Angelo and Associates, J.W. Perry Accounting, PSI in Sand Springs, and most recently as a Walmart associate, where, of course, she made friends just as easily as anywhere she ever went. Kalyn found joy in the simple, meaningful things. She loved cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder, the OSU Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers. She had a gift for sewing and lovingly created quilts, especially T-shirt quilts, that became treasured keepsakes for family and friends. She cherished time spent with the people she loved: pool days and casino nights with Karie Kellert, Tuesday game nights with the girls, peaceful moments on the back porch, and, when possible, a good daytime nap. She loved living with her mom and helping to care for her.

But more than anything, Kalyn loved her people, and they loved her right back, loudly, fully, and without hesitation, just as she always showed them.

She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Coonce of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Lauren Quimby of New Jersey; her mother, Jean Hammond of Cleveland, Oklahoma; her sister, Erin Carlile and husband Todd of Tomball, Texas; her grandchildren, Kylin Coonce, Maeryn Coonce, Sutton Ratzloff, and Blakelynn Kori Sanders; her nephews, Jake Cooper and Mitchell Carlile; her niece, Jordan Fossmo; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her voice, her laughter, and the way she made every room feel a little warmer.

Kalyn was preceded in death by her father, K. Don Hammond.

While her passing was sudden and unexpected, the joy she brought into this world was anything but fleeting. It lives on in every laugh she started, every name she called out, and every life she touched. While rooms, stores, and even the town might be a little more quiet now, we know that heaven has gained pure joy.
