John Swan

John Roger Swan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 17, 2024, in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born on October 26, 1927, in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Neil and Cleo Swan.

John graduated from Cleveland High School in 1945 and joined the United States Navy, where he served honorably until his discharge in November of 1947. Following his military service, John returned to Cleveland, and in June of 1950, he married Della Cooper. John began working at the Cleveland Southwestern Bell office and later transferred to Cushing before settling in Tulsa in 1959. It was in Tulsa where John worked diligently until his retirement in 1982. In July of 1979, he found love once again and married Dorothy Harrington. Upon retiring, John and Dorothy relocated to Rogers, Arkansas on Beaver Lake where they enjoyed their peaceful days together.

During his life, John had a passion for carpentry and craftsmanship. His creations included beautiful lazy susans, oven sticks, wooden swans, and hope chests that he made for each of his granddaughters.

John is survived by his daughter Cheryl Swan and husband Pete Myers of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; step-daughter Diane Dupree of Broken Arrow; siblings Jerry Swan of Owasso and Donna Cable of Cleveland; grandchildren Tara Marshall and husband Anthony of Tulsa and Dallas Swan of Cleveland; great-grandsons Aiden and Denver; three step-grandchildren Jessica Price and husband Doug, Josh Dupree and wife Lindsey, Jacquie Swaffar and husband Kendall; four step-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Swan, parents Neil and Cleo Swan, siblings James Swan, Wilma Lee Eisenhour, David Swan, JoAnn Hewitt, and Suzanne Swan.

A Funeral Service to honor John's life will be held 2:00 pm, April 25, 2024, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland. Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the VFW Post 3031 in Rogers, Arkansas. His legacy of love for his family and dedication to his craft will forever be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Burial will be next to his brothers in the in the Woodland Cemetery. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
