Janice Lynn Merriman

August 30, 1955 – July 24, 2026

Janice Lynn Merriman was born on August 30, 1955, in Winfield, Kansas, to Carl Edward Walker and Fern Lajane (Hopkins) Walker.

Being the oldest of ten, Janice played a role in helping raise her younger siblings. Throughout her life, Janice enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, and gardening. Most of all, she loved going to her kids' and grandkids' events; she never missed a game and saved every news article that mentioned the family's name. Through every trial in life, Janice remained strong, always choosing to see the bright side. Nothing brought more joy to Janice than spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Any chance she had, Janice bragged about how proud she was of her family. She called daily to check in on her kids and grandkids to see how they were doing, not because she had to but because loving them was simply who she was. She loved her family so deeply they never went a day without feeling it.

Charles Richard Merriman

April 9th, 1946 – July 27, 2026

Charles Richard Merriman passed on July 27, 2026. He was born on April 9, 1946, in Yale, Oklahoma, to Charles Bert Merriman and Thelma Waive (Buntin) Merriman.

Dickey spent his life working as a carpenter, building or remodeling many homes in the surrounding area. Dickey could often be found horse trading, going to auctions, and selling guns or antiques. He spent time raising cattle and horses while also often bringing home animals for the grandkids like turkeys, donkeys, and goats. Dickey was always there for his family, attending graduations, birthdays, and family events. His grandkids could always count on him to have a 2 dollar bill handy to give or a neat gift from the flea market.

Janice and Dickey’s story began in Hallett, where they first met standing right in front of what would become the family home that they built together. They were happily married for 54 years on May 12, 1972. Janice often spoke of their times listening to music at concerts and Dickey dancing at the disco. Janice and Dickey enjoyed playing pitch with the family and also enjoyed hunting and metal detecting outdoors with their children, as well as taking trips to see the sights, fishing, and making memories. Most of all, Janice and Dickey would do anything for their family and children, never letting them go without.

They were preceded in death by their beloved children, Andrea Logan Merriman and Blaze Neil Merriman, whom they carried in their hearts every single day.

They are survived by their children, Doug Merriman and Amanda Merriman; grandchildren, Memory Spencer, Tyler Merriman, Gracie Merriman, Ryder Merriman, Kyla Merriman, Logan Merriman, and Sophie Young; and great-grandchildren, Dawson Spencer, Easton Merriman, and Wesson Bartlett, along with the joyful anticipation of a future baby girl to be welcomed by Gracie and Shane.
