Jacob Collin Thompson was born April 26, 1985 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the son of Jacob Lee and Beverly Ann (Garrison) Thompson. Collin was raised and received his education in the Cleveland Public Schools, graduating from Cleveland High School in 2004.
Collin was active in the Future Farmers of America, an organization dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Additionally, Collin was a member of the local 4-H club. He enjoyed participating in livestock events by raising and showing pigs and cattle. He held numerous offices in the Cleveland FFA Chapter and was extremely active in assisting in the welding construction of the animal pens at the new barn south of Cleveland. His animals won numerous competitions throughout the Southwest, including showmanship awards in both Tulsa and Oklahoma City and showed the Class Champion Duroc at the Arizona National Stock Show in Phoenix in 2004. Collin was presented the American FFA Degree, the highest level that can be achieved as an FFA member in Louisville, Kentucky in October of 2005.
Collin graduated from Central Vo-Tech in Drumright in diesel mechanics training as the top student in his class. Prior to graduating from high school, Collin began working for Goober Drilling as a summer job. Upon graduation, he continued to work for Goober as a diesel mechanic and then later as a welder.
Collin was a fun loving person who enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He always greeted people with a huge smile which was contagious and made everyone around him smile. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and noodling, especially around Lake Carl Blackwell and Lake Murray areas. He also enjoyed riding four wheelers and jet skis with his friends. Collin was a member of the Westport Baptist Church where he was baptized into the family of Christ in 1997.
Collin passed away on Monday, August 28, 2006 at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle-automobile collision on Sunday at the age of twenty-one years, four months and two days. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Juanita Thompson; his maternal grandfather, Earl Garrison and an aunt, Janie Thompson.
He is survived by his parents, Jacob and Beverly Thompson of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister, Carmen Thompson of The Colony, Texas; maternal grandmother, Norma Garrison of Cleveland, Oklahoma; numerous aunts, uncles and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will he held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Westport Baptist Church with Dr. Gene Perry officiating. Burial will be at the Sinnett Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
