IN LOVING MEMORY OF
C.H.
Tyler
October 20, 1933 – January 3, 2026
C.H. Tyler passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 92, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.
C.H. was born on October 20, 1933, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to Vassie and Opal (Cole) Tyler. He was raised on the Rock Creek Farm near Prue, Oklahoma, where he grew up and attended school before graduating from Prue High School.
In 1957, C.H. joined the United States Army and proudly served his country until receiving an honorable discharge in 1963. Following his military service, he worked as a truck driver for Broche Construction. In 1964, he entered into a partnership with Frank Metzger, working an oil lease in Osage County. During the 1970s, C.H. partnered with Walt Gambil in Sasakwa, a venture they operated for many years. In the early 1980s, he partnered with his brother, Steve Tyler, to establish Tyler Well Service, operating five pulling units for more than 20 years. C.H. remained active in the oil industry for much of his life, generously sharing his knowledge and experience with those around him.
In 1988, C.H. met Shirley Surrett after passing by her home numerous times before finally stopping to ask her for a date. The two were united in marriage in 1990. They lived in Pawhuska before eventually returning to Hominy, where they made their home.
C.H. often fondly recalled his childhood days of squirrel hunting and fishing with Mills Horton. He enjoyed dining at local favorites such as Click's in Pawnee and the Dari Diner in Cleveland, but his favorite place to eat was always at home with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; son, Matt Tilley and wife Fonda of Skiatook, Oklahoma; daughter, Teresa Williams and husband Andy of Hominy, Oklahoma; grandchildren Billy Tilley and wife Brittany of Skiatook, Megan Shadlow of Hominy, Dalton Williams of Tulsa, Ryan Tilley and wife Jacqueline of Skiatook, and Brayla Tilley of Skiatook; great-grandchildren Avery, Baylen, and Maryn; nephews Sheldon and Jennifer Tyler, Spencer and Elisabeth Tyler, Scott and Jera Tyler, Steve and Lisa Tyler Jr., and Sherman Tyler; niece Candace Marlar and her husband Kayle; and a host of other relatives and friends.
C.H. was preceded in death by his parents, Vassie and Opal Tyler, brother Steve Tyler, sister-in-law Roxanna Tyler, sister Shirley Wilson, son Michael Tilley, and niece Karen Brooks.
