Francis Wayne Wharton passed from this life on June 28, 2026 at the age of 74 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Wayne was born on January 5, 1952, in Fairfax, Oklahoma. He was the son of Francis Stephen and Sylvia Elenora (Wayrynen) Wharton. Wayne grew up in Ponca City and attended school there, graduating with the Class of 1970. Following high school, Wayne began working at Pioneer Wholesale. On Sept 11, 1977, Wayne was united in marriage to Janet Elaine Hooper. Wayne worked at Blackdog Well Service before doing small engine repair work. Wayne also worked at Jernigan's Home and Farm in Broken Arrow for many years, and later at United Rental in Tulsa, Oklahoma. For the past several years, Wayne has been working as a Road Grader operator for Pawnee County District 1.
Wayne found his greatest joy in spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who were the center of his world. He loved the freedom of the open road, whether riding his cherished Harley-Davidson or taking leisurely drives in his prized 1995 Chevrolet SS "Low Rider." An active and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge No. 215, Wayne proudly served as Past Master on multiple occasions, exemplifying his commitment to service, fellowship, and the values of Freemasonry. He also enjoyed traveling, creating lasting memories on Caribbean cruises, and was a proud member of Riders United for Children (RU4C) and ABATE, organizations that reflected both his love of motorcycles and his desire to give back to others. Wayne never passed up an opportunity to enjoy great Mexican food, with Leo's Place and Hickory House among his favorite spots to gather with family and friends. His adventurous spirit, generous heart, and love for those closest to him will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors are his children Jennifer Owen and husband Dirk of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Stephen Wharton of Glencoe, Oklahoma, Kristine Spiller and Jon of Stillwater, Oklahoma, bother in law Tommy Hooper of Cleveland, Oklahoma numerous grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Janet, mother Sylvia Hanks, father Francis Wharton and an infant sister Margie.
