Evelyn Thompson, longtime Coffeyville, Kansas resident, passed away on November 17, 2001 in King George, Virginia at the age of eighty-six years, six months and four days.

Evelyn was born on May 13, 1915 in Terlton, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Leon Guy and Lucy Lenora Florer. Evelyn was raised in the Terlton area and attended school there, graduating from Terlton High School.

Upon graduation from high school, Evelyn attended Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was married to Talbert Thompson on Jan. 23, 1937 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple made their initial home in Cleveland and had one son, Galen. Evelyn worked from 1945 unitl 1956 for the Rural Electric Cooperative(later the Indian Electric Cooperative). The couple moved from Cleveland to Coffeyville, Kansas in 1960 and continued to reside their until this past year when they moved to King George, Virginia to be near their son.

Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church, Athenaeum and the AARP, Local Chapter 2883. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Talbert; one son, Galen Thompson, King George, Virginia; two grandsons, Marc Wyn Thompson, King George, Virginia; and Matthew Ryan Thompson, King George, Virginia; oen great-grandson, Daniel Ryan Irving Thompson, King George, Virginia; and a sister, Phyliss Atkins, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at the Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Dick Rush officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
