Edna Jane Young, 87, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on July 28, 2025, in Tulsa.
She was born on March 29, 1938, in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Clarence Evans and Velma Ruth (Sharp) Tenney. Edna spent her early years in El Reno before moving to California, where she graduated from Bakersfield High School. On September 27, 1957, she married Alfred Laverne McClain, and together they settled in Sand Springs before eventually making their home in Cleveland, Oklahoma, where they raised their three daughters: Sherry, Victoria, and Cynthia.
In 1979, Edna began working as a carhop at Sonic before moving into a cashier position at Safeway. On January 2, 1983, she married Edward Lee Young in Cleveland. She continued her career at Homeland, where she worked faithfully until her retirement. After Lee's passing in 1998, Edna moved to Tulsa and later made Hominy her home in 2002.
Edna enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading her Bible daily, and playing card games. A devoted member of the Baptist faith, she was lovingly known as "Fred" by those closest to her.
She is survived by her three daughters: Sherry Laverne Jackson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Victoria Ann Karman and her husband Tim of Parkville, Missouri; and Cynthia Kay Simmons and her husband Jake of Hominy, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her siblings: Carly Glenn Tenney of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Dixie Lynn Wermager of Skiatook, Oklahoma. Edna was a proud grandmother to five grandchildren-Timothy Jackson, Alisha Duncan, Rebecca Carter, Jeff Raney, and Lacy Wilson-and thirteen great-grandchildren: Shelby, Emma, Violet, Ella, Bear, Casey, Alaynnah, Conner, Cayden, Hayvn, Logan, Miyha, and Nevaeh. She leaves behind many other cherished relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Young; her parents; siblings Johnny Bruce Tenney, Clarence Hastings "Buddy" Tenney, and David Lee Tenney; and her grandson, Joshua Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma, with Pastor Mark Formby officiating. A private burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
