Earl Rufus Murr

Earl R. Murr was born June 20, 1915 in Cabool, Missouri. He was the son of James Elbert and Effie May Murr. Earl was initially raised and attended his early education in the Cabool area. He moved with his family at the age of twelve in a covered wagon to the Old Mannford area in Oklahoma.

Earl spent his life farming, raising cattle and horses. He loved the outdoors and considered farming his career and hobby. He was married to Pansy Opal Davidson on June 11, 1938 in Cleveland, Oklahoma. The couple spent their life together raising their three children, James, Larry and Earlene on a farm near Terlton in Creek County. In order to augment their farming income, Earl also worked for nearly eighteen years as a steel worker for National Tank and C E NATCO. He was a member of the United Steel Workers, Local Union 7568.

Earl loved his family and considered his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as precious gifts. His wife, Opal preceded him in death on October 24, 1985 after forty-seven years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Earl was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Joy Earlene Moreino, two brothers, Harland Oscar and Arthur Lee Murr; and two sisters, Audrey Ivy and Edna Wallace.

When he wasn't working on the farm tending to his daily chores or spending time with his family, Earl could often be found fishing, a hobby he really enjoyed. Earl was a member of the Church of Christ faith, being baptized many years ago.

Earl passed away on Friday, October 26, 2001 at his home, south of Terlton in Creek County at the age of eighty-six years, four months and six days. He is survived by

Survived by her two sons and their wives, Larry R. and Sonja Jean Murr, Terlton, Oklahoma; James L. and Rose Marie Murr, Fairfax, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two brothers, George Murr, Mannford, Oklahoma; Howard Murr, Mannford, Oklahoma; and a son-in-law, Jimmie Moreino, Terlton, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with James L Murr officiating. Burial will be at the Brooks Cemetery in Silver City under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
