Dorothy Doerksen Jennings passed from this life on July 9, 2025, at the age of 88, in Ripley, Oklahoma.
Dorothy was born on December 16, 1936, in St. Joseph, Manitoba, Canada, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Friesen) Doerksen. Dorothy grew up and attended school in St. Joseph, later moving to Altona, where she completed her education. Dorothy began a nursing career in the Canadian Civil Service, where she worked in obstetrics, geriatrics, medical tech, and isolation units at Fort Churchill, Manitoba. In the mid-1960s, Dorothy relocated to Warrensburg, Missouri, where she continued her nursing career. Dorothy married Frank Jennings in the late 1970s, and in 1981, they established their residence in Cleveland. Dorothy remained in Cleveland until 2019 when she moved to Ripley to be closer to her son Kevin.
Trips to Canada with Kevin were always memorable, typically lasting two days each way. Those long drives always gave them time to talk about family and life in Canada. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, vegetables, and feeding wild animals on her porch. Most of Dorothy's enjoyment came from her beloved family, especially cooking family dinners, including traditional holiday meals.
Survivors are her son Kevin Jennings and his wife Jane of Ripley, Oklahoma; one brother John Doerksen of Canada; two granddaughters, Lauran Bundy and husband Trent Bundy, Rikki Kolosha and husband Philip Kolosha; great grandchildren Kenna Estes, Owen Werth, Lilly Tessmann, Addy Tessmann, Liam Kolosha, Nora Kolosha and a host of other relatives and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Jennings; her parents, Henry and Margaret Doerksen; and two brothers, Dick and Elmer Doerksen.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Friends and family are invited to visit an online guest book and memorial page for Dorothy at www.chapman-black.com.
