Clyde Arthur Henager passed away from this life on February 27, 2023, at the age of 82, at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma.


Clyde was born on August 22, 1940, in Finley, Oklahoma, the son of Roy Jay and Ruth Opal (Rowan) Henager. Clyde attended school in and grew up in Sulphur, Oklahoma, Castle, Oklahoma, and Mounds, Oklahoma, before completing and graduating valedictorian of his class at Maramec, Oklahoma. As a young man, Clyde's first job was delivering the Tulsa World and The Grit in the Maramec area. Following graduation, Clyde began working with his father driving a water truck and rolling asphalt-building roads. In August of 1960, Clyde joined the United States Air Force, initially stationed at Castle Air Force Base in California. Clyde returned to Oklahoma on July 25, 1961, and he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Frick in Maramec, Oklahoma. The two returned to Castle Air Force Base before transferring to Sheppard Air Force Base. In February 1964, Clyde was transferred to Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. Staff Sergeant Clyde Henager was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force on August 18, 1967, and returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Clyde accepted a position with Douglas Aircraft and received a job with American Airlines shortly after. Clyde worked as a mechanic for many years and retired after 30 years as an inspector in 1996.


Clyde likes being outdoors, going fishing, and working on his Volkswagens. He also worked many hours working on genealogy. Clyde and Betty loved to travel, spending many months traveling the world, especially the European countries and Australia. Clyde has been a longtime member of the Cleveland Church of the Nazarene. Clyde had a big heart for helping children and was a longtime supporter of Children's International.

Survivors are Betty of the home, daughter Sherrie Bennett and her husband Rex of Choctaw, Oklahoma; one sister Rosann Smith and her husband Wayne of Cushing, Oklahoma; two grandchildren Shannon Potts and her husband James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cory Davis and his wife RaeDawn of Salt Lake City, Utah; four great grandchildren Julian and Oliver Clyde Potts, Natalie, and Charlotte Davis as well as many other friends and relatives. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his two brothers, Duane, and Morris Henager, and two sisters, Dortha Sue Fender and Fern Black.


Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Church of the Nazarene in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the IOOF Maremec Cemetery in Maramec, Oklahoma.
