Alma Miears, 82, passed away on May 3, 2026. She was born in Locust Grove, OK on October 31, 1943, to Maxine & William Glenn.
Alma spent her elementary years in Locust Grove living with her mother and younger brother, Bill, after her father died in WWII. When her mother married Lee Brown, they moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma. They became a family of 5 when her youngest brother, Bobby, was born. She graduated from Charles Page High School in 1961.
Alma met William "Burley" Miears through her friends and his family while still in high school. After graduation, she headed off to college at OSU and Burley was drafted into the Army. In 1962, after he was stationed in Virginia, he came home on leave. They got married over the weekend on April 23rd and he took her back to Virginia with him. They spent 3 years there and made great friends who they would later travel with after Burley retired.
After moving back to Oklahoma, they settled in Sand Springs where they welcomed their son, Alan, in 1967 and their daughter, Dawn, in 1971. In 1972, they moved to Cleveland, OK.
Alma joined First Baptist Church, Cleveland in 1973 where she made lifelong friends. She soon started teaching in the preschool department, taught for over 40 years and sang Jesus Loves Me to countless children. Later she joined the quilting group and helped make many quilts.
Over the years, she enjoyed gardening, canning, growing flowers (crepe myrtles were her favorite), sewing, quilting, painting and ceramics. She was a substitute teacher, co-owned a ceramic shop, and worked at Bargain Hunters.
But her world was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always told us, "I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck". Of course, she also said, "You can just get glad in the same pants you got mad in" but that's a different story. We will miss her greatly.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Burley Miears; her children: Alan Miears and wife Donna, and Dawn Miears; her grandchildren: William Miears and wife Jade, Mathew Miears and wife Joanna, Rachael Ross and husband Brady; her great-grandchildren: Ashton Miears, Bailey Miears, Rugar Miears, Connor Miears and CJ Ross. She is also survived by her brother: Bobby Brown and wife Linda.
She was preceded in death by her parents: William Glenn, Maxine (Glenn) Brown, Lee Brown and her brother: Bill Glenn.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations made in honor of Alma to Meals on Wheels.
