Winnie Pauline Coonfield

Winnie Pauline Coonfield, 89, of Petersburg, Virginia, widow of Merle Berry Coonfield, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 at her home. She was born in Oklahoma on May 15, 1916 the daughter of William and Olive (Wilson) Ramsey. Winnie moved with her family at an early age to Ochelata, Oklahoma for a couple of years before moving to Bartlesville.

She was married to Merle B. Coonfield on August 22, 1936 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. They made their initial home in Oklahoma before moving later to Buchanan, Michigan. The couple had two sons, Merle Richard and Derrill G. They resided in Buchanan for many years. While there, Winnie worked as a line supervisor for Electro Voice Manufacturing, a company that built microphones, amplifiers and speakers for various markets. Following the couple's retirement, they moved to a development in Osage County, Oklahoma near Keystone, Oklahoma. Merle preceded her in death on February 18, 1990 after nearly fifty-four years of marriage.

In June following the death of her husband, Winnie moved to Petersburg, Virginia to be near her son, Derrill and his family. While residing in Oklahoma, Winnie was a member of the Westport Baptist Church. She loved to cook and sew and also enjoyed painting. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was especially close to her sister, Frances.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Merle Richard and JoAnn Coonfield of Lakeview, Arkansas and Derrill G. and Vivian Coonfield of Petersburg, Virginia; sister, Frances Lorene Wood of Cleveland, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at the Sinnett Cemetery with Dr. Eugene Perry officiating. Burial is under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. The family was served in Virginia by the J. T. Morris & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Petersburg, Virginia.
