Wilma Irene Chronic

Wilma Irene Chronic, 88, passed from this life on January 31, 2019, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Wilma was born on November 18, 1930, at Keystone, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Jerry Samuel and Bernice (Almy) Garrison. Wilma was raised and received her education in the Keystone area attending Rigsby school and later graduated from Keystone School with the Class of 1948. Soon after graduation, Wilma moved to Sand Springs. She rode the street car to work from West Tulsa and worked downtown at the Woolworth Department store. On July 28, 1951, Wilma was united in marriage to Emil LaRay Chronic known to many as Corky. They established their original home on the Tulsa County line between Sand Springs and Tulsa also known as Lake Station. They remained there for a short time before moving to Farmington, New Mexico. Following about two years Wilma and Corky returned to the Lake Station area and later moved in the 1960s before the installation of Keystone Lake to the property owned by Wilma’s family; later building their current home. During that time Wilma and Corky carried the Tulsa Tribune and Tulsa World for several years. Wilma later accepted employment at Zebco where she worked on the assembly line building the companies famous 202 reels. Wilma and Corky then opened Cleveland Ready-mix Company that they operated until 1979. Wilma worked as the company’s secretary as well as the backbone of the operation. Wilma and Corky were also active ranching raising cattle as well as operating the redi-mix company. Wilma was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Wilma enjoyed quilting, cooking, crocheting, and embroidering. She was an excellent cook, and her hot rolls were always sought after. Wilma liked to read especially westerns and romance novels. She also always looked forward to going to the cabin at Grand Lake. Wilma was also very good at playing pitch and dominoes. She always looked forward to attending the Senior Citizens at the Schaeffer Station. Wilma is described as a loving, strong and very concerned about keeping things neat. She was always supportive of others as well as always wanting to give to others without any expectations of anything in return. Wilma was a Christian lady accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at a young age.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Carolyn Sue of Grand Lake, Oklahoma, Sandra Rae and Ernest Robinson of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister Shirley Braden of Cleveland, Oklahoma; sister in law Norma Garrison of Cleveland, Oklahoma; seven grandsons, Reade LaRay and his wife Yada Dowda, Ronald Wayne Whinery, Jr., Ryan Wade Whinery and his wife Monica, Andrew Robinson, Russell Robinson, Kelley Robinson, King Robinson; one great-grandson Tanner Whinery; four great-granddaughters, Mattie Whinery, Tiera Whinery, Dakota Whinery, Rilee Whinery; nieces Beverly Thompson, Sheree Cope, Kelli Scarbrough, nephew Jerry Garrison, Jamie Garrison, Howard Braden, Jr., Nick Braden and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband Corky, brother Earl Garrison and a niece Jane Braden.

Services will be held at a later date with interment in the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements. Friends and family may visit an online guest book and memorial page for Wilma at www.chapman-black.com.
