Mitch Mitchell also known to his friends and family as Wes was born November 11, 1934 in Andrews County, Texas to Ottice Clinton and Lela Ruth (Ward) Mitchell. Wes grew up on the West Texas area. His family later moved to Asher, Oklahoma where he graduated from high school. Shortly after graduation Wes moved to California.

On June 14, 1956 Wes was united in marriage to Erma G. Horn in Roseburg, Oregon. Wes and Erma made their initial home in Southerlin, Oregon. During this time Wes had accepted employment with Evans Plywood and Saw Mill. Wes continued to work in the saw mill until 1966 at the closure of the plant. At that time Wes and Erma moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma. Upon their arrival to Cleveland Wes began a career in carpentry. Soon there after Wes accepted employment with Rockwell International in Tulsa. While working for Rockwell for over 22 years as a machinist, Wes was a part in crafting parts for the Apollo Rocket which later landed on the moon. In 1989 Wes retired from Rockwell due to health reasons. After the death of his wife Erma; Wes became active in the local bereavement group. During this time he met his current wife Myrtle. Wes and Myrtle was united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma on March 17, 1999.

Wes had many hobbies which include hunting, fishing, as well as wood working. Wes personally built the home where he and Erma raised their two children Lloyd and Jeanette. Wes was former President of the RCA Rodeo in Oregon in 1966, member of the Church of Christ in Cleveland and former Deacon. Wes also loved being around horses, traveling to Branson and taking strolls on the beach picking up sea shells. He was also an avid John Wayne fan and reader of Louis Lamour stories.

July 4, 2005 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years 7 months and 23 days Wes went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Erma Gene on Oct. 13, 1997, as well as three brothers Lynn, W.D., and Juniory.

Survived by his wife Myrtle Black Mitchell of the home; son, Lloyd and his wife Clara Mitchell of Jennings, Oklahoma; daughter, Jeanette and her husband David Provence of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua, Kelsey and Mitchell one brother Jimmy Ray Mitchell of Andrews, Texas; four stepchildren Gail Mitchell of Dallas, Texas; Cheryl Acklin of Houston, Oklahoma; Teresa Tipton of Corpus Christi, Texas; Brenda Hill of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven step grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers include Keith Acklin, Bob Simmons, Jerry Brady, Hardy Comstock, Virgil Wilson, and Rusty Acklin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 10:00 am in the Church of Christ Sanctuary. Burial will be in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.
