Violet Virginia Carter, 90, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed from this life on December 21, 2020 at her home.


Violet was born on March 25, 1930, in Osage, Oklahoma; the daughter of John W. and Sara Ethel (Baughn) Walters. Violet grew up and attended school in Osage, Oklahoma. Her mother passed away at a very young age and Violet helped her father maintain the home for her siblings. While attending church services at a Church of God State Convention in Broken Arrow, Violet met the love of her life Roy William Carter. On June 9, 1949, Violet was united in marriage to Roy. The two made their home in numerous places in Texas, Oklahoma, Tennesse, and Arkansas and finally settled in Oklahoma. Violet was a pastor's wife tending to the needs of her husband and family for many years. Violet has resided in the Cleveland area since the mid-1970s.
Violet loved to read and be with her children and grandchildren, who she adored. She helped her husband follow her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Sunday dinners were significant events at her home, always making delicious meals for those she loved. Violet enjoyed being at home, taking care of their home and always had beautiful plants and flowers inside and outside of the house, she was blessed with a green thumb. She spent numerous hours with church ladies making quilts for the church to sell to help provide for necessities. Violet has been a member of the Church of God of Prophecy since she was a teenager.
Survivors include her son Robert E. Carter and his wife Sara of Bixby, Oklahoma; son John W. Carter of McAlester, Oklahoma; grandchildren Roman, Taylor, Faith, Chance, Dee, Sheila and Jessica, great grandchildren Cameron, Jayden, Maddox, Ethan, Elizabeth, and Triston as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband Roy W. Carter, son Roy E. Carter and grandson Travis Carter. Also, brothers, Johnie Ray and Clyde Eugene Walters.
Graveside services will be held 3:00 pm, Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the Woodland Cemetery with Pastor Hubert Fitts officiating. Chapman-Black Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements.
