Troy L. Brown

Troy LaVonne Brown was born September 5, 1937 in Moundridge, McPherson County, Kansas. He was the youngest of three sons of Curt and Pauline E. (OíKief) Brown. He received his early childhood education in school in Pawnee County near Cleveland, Oklahoma. Troy moved with his family as a sophomore in high school to Cushing were he graduated from high school with the Class of 1955. While attending school in Cushing, Troy met the love of his life and was married to Carolyn Sue OíConnor, the daughter of Helen Roberts and Sam OíConnor, on March 24, 1956 in Cushing. They made their initial home in Cushing, then later residing in Pawhuska, Yale and finally moving to Cleveland in the early 1960ís. The couple had three children, Kim, Sherri and Chris. Troy accepted employment in the oilfields of Northeastern Oklahoma shortly after graduating from high school. He worked in all facets of the oil drilling business including, roughneck, roustabout, driller and field pusher; learning the business literally from the ground up. He worked for many years with his family at Curt Brown Drilling and then established Brown-Cruzen Drilling, which included drilling and well servicing, which he operated until he sold the company to Robert Cruzen. Troy continued to stay active as an independent oil producer until he passed away on Friday, June 15, 2012 at his home in Cleveland at the age of seventy-four. Troy and Carolyn enjoyed spending time in Branson, Missouri and Colorado; especially the Creedy area. They often would stay in their home for extended periods in Branson as they loved the area; he also enjoyed country and western music. Troyís favorite pastime was taking care of his yard which was always maintained immaculately; often spending countless hours mowing and trimming the landscape. His lawn was always picture perfect and kept beautiful for all to enjoy. Troy was described by his family as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who was giving and a doting partner for his wife Carolyn. He was well respected in the oil industry for being honest and displaying the utmost integrity. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Troy often said he would have liked to have worked less and spent more time with his family, yet his hard work provided better lives for all his family to enjoy. He also always wanted to have the time to train to be a pilot and get his private pilot license. Troy is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Carolyn of the home; two daughters and their husbands, Kim and J. C.
