Thomas Lee Baugh

Thomas Lee Baugh better known as Tom passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 63 years. Tom was born on February 17, 1947 in El Reno, Oklahoma. He was the son of J.D. and Mildred (Sturdavant) Baugh. As a young child Tom moved with his family to Ft. Smith, Arkansas where he began his education. The family later moved to Chickasha and completed his sophomore year in high school. At the beginning of his junior year Tom moved to Sand Springs and later graduated from Charles Page High School with the Class of 1965. Following high school Tom enrolled at Oklahoma State University. Following the completion of his freshman year Tom joined the United States Army to serve his country during the Vietnam War. After the completion of basic training Tom entered the country of Vietnam with Company B 5th Engineering Battalion. While in country they built and maintained the roads and bridges for the supply lines and transportation of troops. While serving his country Tom was awarded the following citations and commendations for his duties: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device 60, 2 O/S Bars, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar and the Good Conduct Medal. Upon returning to the United States Tom was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood where he finished his enlistment. On August 11, 1968, Tom was united in marriage to Willie G. (Stottlemyre) at the Keystone General Baptist Church. In 1969, the couple moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they resided until they moved to Sand Spring in 1972. In 1978, Tom and Willie moved to their current home which Tom and his father built on Keystone Lake. While Tom was living in Tulsa he worked at the Tulsa County Tax Assessor and then later worked for John Zink and VM Piland as a Draftsman. In February of 1985, Tom accepted a position with Fiberglass Systems. Tom continued working there after the purchase of the company by FiberCast and was currently the plant inspector. In October of 2008, Tom was forced to take long term disability due to his health. During the time Tom moved to the Westport area he was instrumental in the growth of the Peninsula Fire Department. Tom served as Fire Chief at the Peninsula from 1982 thru 2000 as well as a certified EMT. Tom loved to go camping at Roaring River, Osage Hills and Colorado. He was an avid wood worker and enjoyed tinkering on his cars. There is nothing he was not able to fix. Tom was an active member of the Westport Baptist Church. One thing that Tom would do was to help people as much as he could. He was also generous and loved to laugh as well as having a good time. However there were times when Tom was ornery and a little mischievous at times. Tom was Willieís hero and special father to Sean as well as a strong fighter of cancer. Survivors are his wife Willie of the home, mother Mildred Baugh of Oklahoma City, one son Sean Baugh of Dallas, Texas, one brother James R. Baugh of Kansas City, Kansas, one sister Janet Beck of Oklahoma City as well as many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by father J.D. Baugh.
