Tally Johnson

Tally Thomas Johnson passed away August 17, 2014 after a short illness. He was born on November 06, 1926 south of Cleveland, Oklahoma near Feyodi Park to Modena (Wilcoxson) and Silver Glenn Johnson. Tally spent his childhood years with his younger brothers; Muggyown, Coyote, and Woodly near Terlton on the family farm and ranch. He attended school in the Terlton school system. From a very early age, Tally grew up with his horse and saddle. He always favored the ìcowboyî side of the operation over farming; but by necessity, he learned to do both. Struggling through the Great Depression of the nineteen thirties added to his knowledge and experience. With hands-on experience and skills, Tally was called upon by his friends and neighbors for his help and assistance which he gladly gave. The ranching operation was primarily in Pawnee and Creek counties and at time extended into Osage and Okmulgee counties. Tally married Bessie Theora Harris on December 28, 1953, and together they raised two sons; Monty & Trenton. Family and ranching was Tallyís entire life, but his hobbies included leather working, storytelling, and dancing. Tally was passionate about preserving the Yates Spanish Mustang bloodline and the longhorn cattle breed. He read extensively and was very knowledgeable of local and western history. Tally had many friends that he always enjoyed talking with, or listening to, especially those associated with the cattle industry. For many years Tally spent his weekends helping his family run the Longhorn Dance Hall on Saturday nights, and later began teaching countless children to roller-skate on Friday nights. Tally loved riding in the mountains, and taking annual hunting trips to New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado.Tally was the epitome of the old-time cowboy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Johnson; his parents, Silver Glenn & Modena Johnson; and two brothers, Woodly & Muggyown Johnson. He is survived by two sons and their wives, Monty and Anita Johnson of Terlton, Oklahoma, Trenton and Cathy Johnson of Terlton, Oklahoma; brother and his wife, Coyote and Mona Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Monica Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Melissa Ryan of Pawnee, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Jesse Johnson of Terlton, Justin Johnson of Terlton, and Kendall and Lydia Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three great granddaughters, Morgan and Sahara Ryan of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Shelby Ryann Johnson of Terlton, Oklahoma; three great grandsons, Maxwell Joe Johnson of Terlton, Oklahoma, Ayden Wyatt Johnson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Trent Robert Johnson of Terlton, Oklahoma; as well as many other family and friends.
