Sue Ann Davis

Sue Ann Davis (Lamb) was born in Richmond Indiana. At a very young age, her mother moved to South Bay California. As the eldest of three children, she grew up taking care of the younger siblings. This would be the training ground for her mothering instincts. Graduated from Carson High School in Carson California. On March 26, 1971 married Leland Paul Davis, and in July of 1971 went to live with her husband in Guam. Leland being a Navy man would be gone for periods of time on deployments. Sue would learn to preserve during those lonely weeks but made her husband’s return more sweet. As a new wife she had many adventures, loved learning about Guam culture, eating fresh tree ripe tropical fruit, and partying with friends. On one occasion was stopped by a wild sow boar with piglets on the trail to Talofofo Falls while pregnant. All the friends suggested they shimmy up a tree to avoid the sow but Sue didn’t find this funny being pregnant; a graceful retreat was decided instead. In August 1972 her first born son, Jeff Davis, was born at the Naval hospital on Guam. In January 1975 her second son, Matt Davis, was born in Torrance California. The family lived in various places in southern California between 1973 to 1981.

In the summer of 1981 the family moved Blackburn Oklahoma. Sue had always dreamed of living in the country or a small town. She became very active in Cub Scouts and took over the Den Mother role. Excited to plunge into farm life, she got chickens, goats, pigs, and planted a huge garden. Sue loved canning, cooking food, and hosting family on the farm. As the boys became more active in sports it was decided that moving into Cleveland would be more logistically feasible. In 1983 moved to Cleveland. Sue very quickly adopted every friend Jeff and Matt brought to the house. She enjoyed cooking, conversing, helping, shaping, and molding her sons and friends into the men they would one day become.

As a member of First Baptist Church Cleveland Oklahoma, Sue enjoyed being a VBS teacher and for a few years Falls Creek cook. Sue enjoyed cooking, bringing dishes from all over the world, and generally pushing her church and immediate family out of their comfort zone. Her hobbies were crocheting, ceramics, painting, quilting, fishing, and challenging perceptions of reality. Sue’s greatest joy were her three grandson which she enjoyed spending time with, teaching, showering with gifts.
Sue’s service will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 – 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. You may share a memory at www.chapman-black.com.
