Shirley Angeline Summers was born April 26, 1928 in Watertown, New York to Hans Richard and Mable P. Wiegand. On December 11, 2016 she passed away in Stroud, Oklahoma. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Summers graduated from Watertown High School in 1946 and worked for Northern New York Trust as an Accountant. She moved to the Seattle, Washington area to be near her older sister Ruth Wood when Mrs. Wood was about to deliver a baby. It was here that she would first meet the love of her life, her late husband, Bill L. Summers. She later moved to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska working as an Accountant and to help her sister take care of the newborn child and later Sergeant Summers would be stationed at nearby Fort Richardson, Alaska and they would begin dating. They became engaged and were married on June 9, 1951 in the Ft. Richardson Army Post Chapel. They hold the distinction of being the first couple to wed in the Post Chapel. Also noteworthy, this was prior to Alaska becoming a state.
Mrs. Summers and her husband moved to Cushing, Oklahoma in 1951 after he was discharged from the Army. Mrs. Summers was employed by Schlumberger Oil Company in the Accounting Department. She was baptized into the First Christian Church in Cushing, Oklahoma in March 1952. Mr. and Mrs. Summers moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma in 1958. She worked at the Western Auto store for a number of years. In 1958, after moving to Cleveland, she became a member of the 1st Christian Church. She was a long time member of the First Christian Church in Cleveland and dearly loved serving in the church and her church family. She and her husband also worked as Facility Managers for the 1st Christian Church for 10 years. Mrs. Summers loved dogs, particularly Dachshunds and Boston Terriers.
Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill, her parents and 5 brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her son Bill N. Summers and wife Gina of Jacksonville, Arkansas, son John Michael Summers and wife Angela of Bethany and daughter Jean Denise Reamy and husband Brian of Stroud, Oklahoma; six grandchildren Ryan and his wife Jacinda, Brandon and his wife Shannon, Dustin and his wife Emily, Travis and his wife Jamie, Rocky and his wife Kathrine and Sarah and her husband Beau. She has six great-grandchildren, Lane, Caitlin, Meghan, Gavin, Gage, Kennedy, Greyson and Camdyn and has two more great grandchildren due; Madelyn in December 2016, and Griffin in March 2017.
Services for Mrs. Summers were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma. David Logsdon officiated the service. Musical selections included Dancing in the Sky and Amazing Grace. Pallbearers were Grandsons Ryan Summers, Dustin Summers, Travis Summers, Brandon Summers, Rocky Reamy, Beau Hubbard and longtime neighbor and friend, Dan Reeves.
