Sandra Rae Lucas

Sandra Rae Lucas passed away at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at the age of 51. Sandy was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on May 4, 1962, to parents Carl L. and Jerra L. (Wilcox) Lucas. She lived in Cleveland, Oklahoma, with her parents, brother Douglas and sister, Pamela, until she was 9 years old. In June 1971, she entered The Hissom Memorial Center and lived there until she was 21. During her time at Hissom, Sandy earned her High School Equivalency Certificate. On May 5, 1983, Sandy moved home with her parents and remained there until July 31, 1990. Living at home was not exciting enough, so Sandy moved to a group home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. While in this group home, Sandy was involved in many activities, even joining a square dance club. On May 8, 1996, Sandy transitioned into Supported Living Services under Gatesway in Tulsa. She and a housemate rented their own home, with 24 hour staff. Since her move, Sandy blossomed and expanded her interests. Sandy enjoys having her hair styled, painting her nails, shopping for clothes, and going to yard sales. She enjoys needle work, making latch-hook rugs, music and dancing. Her favorite activity is going out to restaurants with her family. Survivors include her mother, Jerra, brother Douglas, Sister Pamela, nieces Cheryl Jenkins, Alana Jenkins, Erin Jenkins and Nephews Austin Jenkins, Nick Lucas and Travis Lucas, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sandy was preceded in death by her father Carl Lucas. Memorial services were held privately at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday at 10:30 am with Gene Black officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
