Sam Gene Zickefoose

Sammie Gene Zickefoose passed from this life peacefully at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the age of eighty-one.
Sam was born on June 14, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was raised in the old town of Keystone, now under Keystone Lake. He attended school through the eighth grade at Sinnett Schools and then transferred to Cleveland where he graduated from Cleveland High School in 1954.
Sam was inducted into the service of his country in the United States Army on June 23, 1960 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served for two years as a SP4 (E-4) after completion of Sharpshooter training and earning his Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle) and a Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from military service on June 22, 1962.
After returning from his tour in the United States Army, Sam was married to Grace Shaeffer on September 28, 1963. Shortly thereafter, Sam accepted employment with Flint Steel where he worked as a foreman. Sam was part of the team that constructed the Golden Driller at the Tulsa Fair Grounds. After many years with Flint Steel, Sam made the decision to go into business for himself and purchased a semi-truck and trailer and began a career hauling steel and many other products as an independent trucker. Sam was in the trucking business most of his adult life which afforded him many blessings.
After retirement, Sam's hobby of trading became his fulltime passion. He was always searching for bargains that he could turn into a profit. Sam and President Trump shared the same birthday and also the same deal making skills. Sam lived out the “Art of the Deal”, that Trump wrote. Sam enjoyed buying and selling automobiles, farm equipment, and many additional items including any type of machinery. On one occasion, Sam bought a Russian tractor and was able to sell it for profit prior to going home that day.
Sam was always willing to help out friends and family when they were in need of assistance. He would lend his muscle, know how, or money to people in need. He spent countless hours insuring the Sinnett Cemetery was maintained properly, marking graves and mowing if needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Murrell and Madie Zickefoose; his brother, Charles Zickefoose and a sister, Madie Swart-Hodson. He is survived by his wife Grace Zickefoose of the home, sister, Marie Shaeffer of Norman, Oklahoma; his daughters, Lisa Provenzano and fiance Bill Reilly, and Cheryl Frazier; his nephews Charles Swart, Charles Zickefoose, nieces, Dorla Champlain, Gloria Glidden, Cheryl Schoolfield, and numerous other relatives and friends who will mourn his passing. A special thank you to Chrissy Rose and Sue Wahl, also special friends Wendell Braden of 75 years, Harold Hurley of 60 years, Dr. Bill and Jan Reilly for their continuous monitoring of Sam’s care while at skilled rehabilitation.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 26, 2018 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Sinnett Cemetery.
