Roxie Pearl Giacoma

“God kissed her and she slept.”
Roxie Pearl Giacoma, fondly remembered as “Foxy Roxie,” yielded her spirit to Its Benevolent Author in the early hours of December 11th 2015 at 69 years old. If someone had asked Roxie what they key to a happy life was, she would have answered heartily, “Family!” Roxie taught her family about forgiveness and unconditional love during her time on this earth. She was exactly the kind of woman that mother’s hope their daughters grow up to be. She embodied strength, courage, and kindness in every facet of her life. Roxie was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer a warm smile. We, her family and friends, were truly gifted with her presence and involvement in our lives and we will miss her every day until we meet again.

Roxie Giacoma was born to Rose Lee Weems and Wallace Harris Long in Martinez California on June 18th 1946. Roxie moved with her family to Oklahoma where she graduated from Newcastle High School. After high school, Roxie relocated to the Dallas Texas Area where she operated four beauty salons. At age 28 she joined the United States Navy as a communications specialist stationed at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Later in Roxie’s military career she was transferred to San Diego, California where she ended her service with honors. Roxie relocated to Oklahoma in 1996 to be closer to her immediate and extended family.

Roxie enjoyed reading and her favorite novel was ‘The Clan of the Cave Bear’ by Jean M. Aeul. Roxie loved to travel and went on quite a few cruises around the world. She was truly in awe of the beauty that the world had to offer. She spent her free time playing bingo and visiting local casinos when she wasn’t spending time with her beloved daughter and grandchildren. Just as she spent every moment with her family during her life she spent her last surrounded by loved ones.

Roxie is survived by her daughter, Kimber Burdett-Pickering and her son-in-law Samuel Elliot Pickering of Cleveland, Oklahoma. She is also survived by five sisters and two brothers; Patricia Fallin of Yale, Oklahoma, Jolene Sumpter-Mann of Sulphur, Oklahoma, Anna Sumpter of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sheryl Beck of Sugarland, Texas, Donna Stanford of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Von Coggins of Cleveland, Oklahoma, and Wallace Long II of Salem, Oregon. In addition Roxie is survived by four grandchildren; Nicolas Burdett and his spouse Shayna White-Burdett, Kaitlyn McCann and her husband Robert McCann, Gabrielle Burdett, Samuel Pickering Jr and his wife Carrie Pickering and a total of eleven great grandchildren. Roxie is preceded in death by her parents, Rose Lee Weems and Wallace Harris Long as well as one brother, Harry Edwin Jones.
