Rolland Edward Blumer, 76, died Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Claremore Veterans Center from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born September 8, 1942, in Cleveland, Oklahoma to Conway and Florence (McKaughan) Blumer. While attending high school in Cleveland, he enlisted in the military and graduated with the class of 1961.

Rolland attended classes at Connors Agriculture College in Warner, Oklahoma. He later bought a cattle truck, going into business for himself. Rolland met Betty Morton of Yale, Oklahoma, in 1966. They were later married at Council Valley Baptist Church outside of Cushing, Oklahoma. Rolland sold the cattle truck and bought a service station in Cleveland to spend more time at home. In 1968, their son Darren was born. That same year the station was sold and the family moved to north of Cushing, Oklahoma and rented 160 acres to farm and raise cattle. That next year he enrolled in Central Tech studying Building Trades.

In the summer of 1971, while on vacation in Minnesota, Rolland and Betty found a farm north of the small town of Deer Creek, they later bought. They moved the family there in the fall. Shortly after, they lost their second child, Terry Don. Rolland joined the military, training in numerous areas and eventually getting promoted to E-6 and serving as a platoon sergeant. In 1975, the Blumer’s welcomed their daughter, Jodi, into their family

1976 brought Rolland and the family back to Oklahoma to help with his parents. The family moved back to the rented property north of Cushing and began building and remodeling houses. During that time, Rolland had eight people in his employment. In 1978, land was purchased just southwest of Yale, Oklahoma were he founded the family homestead and over time raised beef cattle as well as had a dairy. In the next few years, Darren and Jodi became involved in Scouting and Rolland became a Cubmaster. Later, he started Troop 274 in the Twin Mound District being one of its scoutmasters. Rolland was also supportive in the local 4-H, FFA chapters in the area, as well as being a part of a local church and its ministry.

Upon moving back to Oklahoma, Rolland rejoined the military; First, B company in Cushing, Oklahoma then an infantry in Oklahoma City. He jumped around the state, from Ponca City to Stillwater, to Pawnee, and finally to Stillwater where he discharged in 1991 with the rank of Sergeant First Class/Senior Drill Sergeant (E7). Later in life he enjoyed wood working, racing homing pigeons, sitting at a jigsaw puzzle and a good book.

He is survived by his son, Darren and wife Janet (Holder) Blumer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; his daughter, Jodi, and husband Dwayne Avery of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and their mother, Betty Bullard of Cushing, Oklahoma. His sister, Connie Rowe of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and his grandchildren, Austin Blumer, Andrew and his wife Mannalis (Barnes) Blumer, Taytum Avery, and Grayson Avery along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents, infant son Terry Don, brother Michael Blumer and sister Martha "Carol" Schwope.

A visitation will be held at Chapman-Black Funeral Home in Cleveland, Oklahoma on Friday, November 16, 2018, from 10 am to 7 pm with the family being available from 5 pm to 7 pm. Services for Rolland are 11 am on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at Chapman-Black Funeral Home Chapel with pastor Jarrod James of Christ Reformed Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Rolland will be laid to rest next to his parents in Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma. Condolences can be left for the family online at www.chapman-black.com.
