Robert Wilson Cather, Jr.

Jr. of Cleveland, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018, at the age of 85 years in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Bob was born July 23, 1932, in Maramec, Oklahoma. He was the son of Robert Wilson, Sr. and Magdalena (Bejcek) Cather. Bob grew up and attended school in Hallett graduating with the Class of 1950. Following graduation, Bob moved to Deerfield, Kansas. While in Kansas, Bob worked on a farm for his uncle. In 1951, Bob enlisted into the service of his country with the United States Air Force. During his tenure, Bob was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. During his time at Sheppard, Bob met Patricia Nell LaFon. Bob and Pat were united in marriage on August 5, 1954, while residing in Texas. Following his honorable discharge, Bob and Pat moved to Minnesota. While in Minnesota, Bob partnered with two others and began Marsden Janitorial. They operated the company together and in 1981, Bob sold his shares of the company and returned to Cleveland. Bob started his new company Bob’s Upholstery upon moving to Cleveland. He worked for many years to reupholster, repair, refinish and restore furniture. He could also restyle your furniture or rebuild the furniture to your exact specifications. In 2010, Bob retired from his daily work as an upholsterer.

Bob loved fishing. He would take yearly trips to Lake of the Woods near the Canadian border on opening day. Bob enjoyed bowling and bowled on a league for many years at the Hominy Bowling Alley. He and Pat enjoyed going to Las Vegas and would frequent local venues. One memorable trip was to the World Fair in 1968 that was in San Antonio, Texas. Bob was very active at the local American Legion. He was former Post Commander. He also worked tirelessly raising money for the organization and working the Bingo fundraiser.

Survivors are his loving wife Pat of the home, three sons Bob Cather and his wife Renee of Bixby, Oklahoma, Bruce Cather and his wife Joni of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Bryan Cather and his wife Liz of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one sister Betty Wands of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Brady Cather and his wife Michelle of Rochester, Minnesota, Ashley Anderson and her husband David of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Rhiannon Lamb and her husband Bobby of Bixby, Oklahoma, Rebecca Reynolds and her husband Matt of Mounds, Oklahoma, Robert W. Cather III of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren Bryson, Lyric, McKenzie, Gage, Maddox, Ellia as well as numerous other relatives and friends that will mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by one son Ronnie J. Cather, two sisters Mary Youngberg, Lyla Bledsaw and one great-grandson Brennan Cather.
