Robert Glen King

Robert Glen ìBobî King was born in rural Osage County near DeNoya, Oklahoma on October 23, 1928. He was the son of Robert Henry and Ilda Marie (Fisher) King. Bob moved with his family following oilfield work during his childhood residing in Seminole, Oklahoma, Illinois and then settling in Hoisington, Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1945. Upon completion of his education, Bob worked for the City of Hoisington at the water treatment plant and electrical plant for a couple of years before accepting employment with Lane Wells, an oilfield perforating company in Russell, Kansas. During this time, Bob enlisted into the service of his country in the United States Army National Guard and served from June 1948 to June 1949. Bob was united in marriage to Edith Marie Carroll on April 10, 1949 in Hoisington, Kansas. The couple made their initial home in Russell, Kansas and later after Bob accepted employment with The Texas Company, later Texaco, the family moved to Stroud, Oklahoma. Bob and Edith had four children, David (Dave) Robert, James (Jim) Lee, Debra Kay and Arthur Christopher (AC). Bob worked in many facets of the oilfield for Texaco, eventually being promoted to field production superintendent. In 1971, the family relocated to Houma, Louisiana when Bob was transferred there with Texaco. Bob retired in 1983 after thirty-four years with Texaco. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing and boating with his wife and children. After moving to Louisiana, he enjoyed shrimping and archery, however bowling was his favorite hobby. He was a professional bowler who won numerous trophies and medals while at the same time teaching his family including his grandchildren to bowl. From his early childhood he recalled learning to work on all types of equipment and machinery; working on his Uncle Cliffís lawn mowers and tinkering with cars and then learning to repair almost anything. He also recalled fondly learning to fish with his Grandpa Fisher in the Cleveland area as a youngster. His dedication and hard work ethic made him extremely successful in his career path of the oilfields of Kansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. He remembered having one of the first color televisions in his area and sharing it with neighbors as they sat and watched television and ate popcorn. When asked about his favorite quote, he said, ìYou got it from your father, it was all he had to give. So it's yours to use and cherish, for as long as you may live." Bob was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Stroud, Oklahoma, and attended First Baptist Church after moving to Houma, Louisiana.
