Robert George Dunlap, longtime resident of Jennings, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, March 7, 2016, at his home in Jennings at the age of 87 years old.

Robert was born July 27, 1928, in Yale, Oklahoma. He was the son of Rugus J. and Elsie Louise (Tharp) Dunlap. As a young man Robert grew up in Jennings where he attended school. At a very young age Robert worked in the wheat fields while completing his education. Robert at the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy during World War II, in October of 1945. Following the conclusion of World War II, Robert was honorably discharged and soon returned to the Jennings area. On April 8, 1947, Robert was united in marriage to the love of his life Colleen Wray Alsip. Robert and Wray have resided in many places in Oklahoma, however always made Jennings their home. Robert worked in the oil field and for many years, during this time he has worked for Bigheart, Sooner and Bow Pipeline before he retired. Even after his so called retirement Robert continued working as a contract pumper.

Family time was always very special to Robert and Wray. They spent numerous nights camping on the lake shores of Keystone and Hayburn Lakes with their family. Weekends on the lake was always a given during the summer months. Robert was a tremendous skier and taught many in his family. Summer vacations were usually spent on the Illinois River and Tenkiller Lake. One of his most memorible trips was spent driving to Alaska, pulling the camper in the early 1990’s. He also enjoyed getting out and tending to his cattle as well as driving his tractor as fast a possible. Most of all in life Robert cherished his time spent with his family and friends who he loved dearly. Planting a garden was also a big part of his life. As well as sharing his fruits of his labor with his friends and family.

Survivors are his four children Robert Dunlap and his wife Kay of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Gerald Dunlap of Terlton, Oklahoma, Vicki Wheeler of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Mike Dunlap and his wife Cindy of Hominy, Oklahoma; one brother Jack Dunlap and his wife Doris of Vian, Oklahoma, one sister in law Doris I. Dunlap of Jennings, Oklahoma, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wray, brother James Dunlap and a sister Joann Lunsford.

Chapel Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday, March 10, 2016, at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Paul Travis officiating. Burial will follow in the Jennings Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory with the family online at www.chapman-black.com
