Retha Kay Powell, 72, passed from this life on May 17, 2020, in Cleveland, Oklahoma.

Kay was born on June 20, 1947, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Hearil Joseph McClure and Jerelene Thelma (Dean) Wood. Kay attended school in and later graduated with the Class of 1965 from Sapulpa High School. Following high school, Kay attended Draughon Business College in Tulsa. During this time, she also worked for Terry Powell at the local pharmacy in Sapulpa. While working at the pharmacy, she met the love of her life, Gale Edwin Powell. The two were soon united in marriage on July 25, 1969, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Following their marriage, Kay and Gale established their first home in Sapulpa. They also have lived in Bay City, Texas, Dallas, Texas, and Midland, Texas, before returning to Oklahoma. In the early 1980s, Kay and Gale moved to Cleveland, Oklahoma. Kay started working at Osage Oil and later accepted a part-time position at the Cleveland Post Office before becoming the full-time rural mail carrier for the Keystone Lake Area.

Kay enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and most of all, following her children and grandchildren playing sports and showing livestock. She also enjoyed cooking, especially her famous fried chicken and chicken enchiladas. Kay liked spending every morning reading before starting her day. Kay was a huge supporter of the Cleveland 4-H and FFA Booster Club.

Survivors include her four children Stacy Blackburn and her husband Justin of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Chad Powell of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Brad Powell and his wife Penny of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Shannon Sallee and husband Clayton of Lincoln, Arkansas; two sisters Karen Gulley and her husband Richard of Jenks, Oklahoma, Pat Yarger of Vinita, Oklahoma, one brother Larry McClure and wife Darlene of Edmond, Oklahoma; five grandchildren Lindsey Blackburn of Pawnee, Oklahoma, Brock and Ethan Powell of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Gracelynn and Stockton Sallee of Lincoln, Arkansas and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her father, Hearil McClure, mother, Jerelene Wood, and step-father, Glen B. Wood, Kay was preceded in death by her husband Gale.

Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 22, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Pastor Justin White officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations be made in honor of Kay to the First Baptist Church in Terlton or to the Clevland Ag Booster Club.
