Polly Puryear

Polly M. Puryear passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at her home in Hominy, Oklahoma at the age of 71 years, six months and 27 days. Polly was born July 28, 1941, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Ruben B. and Virginia Lillian (Yates) Puryear. Polly grew up in Hominy where she began her education. She later graduated from Hominy High School with the Class of 1959. Following high school Polly enrolled at Oklahoma State University and later transferred to Bartlesville where she completed her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Following graduation Polly worked for Dr. Hickerson for many years and also worked at the R.B. Dick Conner Correctional Center. Polly also worked as a Deputy Clerk in Osage County for Helen Christenson. Pollyís last job was a private nurse for several individuals in the area before retiring. Polly was an avid reader and spent many hours at the library. She loved Indian Art and had several paintings at her home. Polly also enjoyed going on vacations and cruises throughout the Caribbean. Polly was also a member of the Gilcrease Museum Society. Polly was baptized as a young lady in the Methodist Church in Hominy. Survivors are her maternal aunt Betty Jane Johnston of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, cousin Barbara Carter of Tempe, Arizona, Gayle Basse of Yukon, Oklahoma, Colby Carter and Travis Carter of Tempe, Arizona, Blake Basse of Yukon, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by parents Ruben B. Puryear Virginia Lillian Puryear (Yates). Chapel Services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Larry Stuart officiating. Burial will be held privately in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery on the family plot under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
