Phil was born April 1, 1947, in Ardmore, Alabama. He was the son of Walter and Clura Lee (Brooks) Buchanan. Phil was raised in Ardmore and graduated from Ardmore High School. On April 25, 1966, in Trenton, Georgia Phil was united in marriage to Juanita Faye Houck. Phil joined the United States Air Force in 1967. Following basic training, he was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas and sent to Vietnam where he remained for a long 17 months. He was honorably discharged on August 1, 1972. Phil and Juanita moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where Phil furthered his education at Spartan School of Aeronautics. During his lifetime, Phil was employed by J.C. Hamilton and Davis Auto Color. He was a skilled auto body man and painted many custom automobiles, planes and boats for friends in his spare time. Following the Tulsa Flood in the early 1970’s, Phil and Juanita moved their family to their current home on Keystone lake. Phil eventually accepted a position with Conoco-Phillips as a pipeline inspector and retired in 2009 when his health began to deteriorate.

Phil had a lifetime love for fishing. He was an amazing cook and loved being in the kitchen. He had a passion for flower gardening and grew beautiful flowers every Spring. His vegetable gardens were plentiful and he delighted in sharing the fruits of his labor with his friends, family and even strangers. Phil loved his birds so much that feeding and watering them daily was never a burden but a pleasure. His birds usually ate better than most people! He studied all types of birds and spent many days on the patio bird watching and educating his children about his birds. Alabama Crimson Tide football was in his blood from birth. Attending the National Championship game in 2009 with his son was one of the greatest memories he ever made. Among other travels, Phil and Juanita took a Caribbean cruise on their 35th Anniversary and had the time of their lives. Family was important to Phil. His wife Juanita, his two children Dolores and Ira, his grandchildren Logan and Jessica, plus the many children he loved as his own, his friends and extended family all meant the world to him.

Phil passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at his home in Cleveland, Oklahoma at the age of 69 years old.
