Pat Hickson

Patsy Ruth Hickson went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, May 28, 2007 at her home near Terlton at the age of seventy-three years, one month and four days.

Pat, also know as Granny, was born April 24, 1934 in Skeedee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Charlie and Bessie Southern. Pat was raised in the Skeedee area, attending school in Ralston and Pawnee, graduating from Pawnee High School in 1952.

Upon graduation, Pat accepted employment as a telephone operator in Perry and was then married to Bailey Hickson on January 2, 1954. The couple made their home in Perry and had two children, Shari LeAnn and Michael Dane. While residing in Perry, Pat also worked for Montgomery Ward as a sales associate and later for the First National Bank of Perry.

In 1974, the couple moved to Cleveland and established their home. Pat accepted employment with the Cleveland Bank for several years before accepting a position at the Quic-Pic, south of Cleveland in front of the Woodland Hills addition, as assistant manager from 1987 - 1994.

Pat was a faithful follower and witness for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was extremely active in the First Baptist Church in Cleveland, helping in anyway she was needed. She often said that her greatest accomplishment is life was dedicating her life to the Lord and loving her family. She enjoyed giving and receiving hugs from her friends and family. Throughout her battle with Arthritis over the past several years, Pat was always more concerned about those around her than her own illness and faithfully attended her church even when she didn't feel well. When Bailey and Pat moved to Terlton in January of 2006, Pat transferred her membership to the First Baptist Church of Terlton.

Pat had many hobbies but especially enjoyed gardening and making top pieces for quilts. She mostly loved spending time and cooking for her family. For several years, Pat assisted with the coordination and direction of trips taken by the Senior Citizens of the Cleveland community. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with the love of her life, Bailey. Pat was extremely proud of her family, especially her grandchildren, Stephanie, Jay and Taryn.

Pat lived her life according to her favorite scripture: Romans 8:28, And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

She is survived by her husband of fifty-three years, Bailey of the home; daughter, Shari LeAnn Dewitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Stephanie and her husband, Robert Bradley of Cleveland, Oklahoma, Jeremiah and his wife, Sara Spurlock of Norman, Oklahoma and Taryn DeWitt of Cleveland, Oklahoma; great granddaughter, Alexys Jaid Bradley of Cleveland, Oklahoma; two brothers, Sam Southern of Pawnee, Oklahoma and Bill Southern of Fairfax, Oklahoma; two sisters, Gladys McCray of Pawnee, Oklahoma and Thelma Baucon of Morrison, Oklahoma. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Dane Hickson of September 11, 2005 and a sister, Ernestine VanDeventer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, June 1, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Terlton with Rev. Dale Gowdy officiating and musical selections will be performed by Willa Gowdy. Burial will be at the Terlton Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home.
