Oren John Henry Adams

Heaven gained a very special angel today. Oren John Henry Adams, born October 15, 1919, died January 9, 2017, at the age of 97 years old. Oren had a rough start in his early years of life, but as a young man, he saw a war coming on. Oren enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Missouri on July 9, 1941. Oren came home for his best friends’ funeral and saw this beautiful young woman he had a few dates.

At the funeral, he asked Helen Marie Thompson to be his wife. They were united in marriage in Ottawa, Kansas, not much of a honeymoon, then back to finish boot camp. Oren started out as a Buck Private but enlisted in any and every school the military would send him to expand his qualifications. By the end of World War II, Oren was a Master Sargent. He served in that war from 1941 to 1945. Then he came home to his young Helen. In 1950, he was asked to serve in Korea as a First Lieutenant. Oren was a faithful servant to his country and agreed immediately to go back to war. By this time Oren and Helen had two little girls, Donna Raye and Rita Kaye, fourteen years later, they had a son Oren Lee. He served two years in that war, then came home to his family. The family joined the First Baptist Church of Hominy, Oklahoma. Oren Adams were responsible for saving many lived in the wars he fought, but he learned to save lives in a different way in his church. His life revolved around his family and his church. Everyone knew Oren had read the Bible so many times and absorbed what he knew God wanted him to do with his life. Jesus led him through the pearly gates, and he was greeted by family and loved ones that had gone on before him, but most importantly, he is being greeted by the ones he helped lead to Heaven.

Oren is survived by his children Rita and Jim Runyon of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Clayton and Donna Mitchell of Camarillo, California, Oren Lee Adams of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one sister Betty Snavely of Oologah, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason and Cara Mitchell, Clayton and Crystal Mitchell, Marilyn Franklin, Jessica and Brian Firestone, Justine and Alex Wagner and Josh Adams, great grandchildren Wes, Jaci and Nick Mitchell, Zoe Taylor, Lucas Mitchell, Austin, Khalia and Lexi Franklin, Henry, Harrison, Nora and Hayes Firestone, Georgia Wagner as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Preceded in death are his wife Helen, great grandson Kenny Taylor, brothers Bobby and Billy Adams, mother, Edith Gibbons and his father, Tom Adams.
