Opal A. Mcsorley

Opal A. McSorley, a life long resident of Cleveland was born July 10, 1914 in Rowe, Oklahoma to William Edward and Nancy Emaline (Martin) Collins. Opal grew up in the dog center road area where she attended a one room school house until the 6th grade. Opal then began attending the Cleveland Schools. Opal later graduated high school from Cleveland at the age of 16. She worked as a wait person at Gilson CafÈ in Cleveland for sometime. Opal was united in marriage to Lester McSorley and four children were born to the union ending in divorce after 10 years. Opal then accepted employment with the First National Bank of Cleveland as a teller in 1947. Opal was promoted to all of the different positions and was lastly the Vice President and Treasurer when she retired in 1980. During Opalís tenure at the bank she was active with her co-workers getting involved in the Bowling League at the Hominy Bowling Alley. Opal, even after her retirement at the bank, continued to bowl until the late 1980ís. Opal stayed active sewing for people in town as well as doing their accounting and tax returns.

Opal was also an active golfer at Keystone Golf Club. Opal loved to sewing, needle work, reading historical novels, playing cards especially pinochle, solving mind games as well as playing dominoes. People would say that Opal was very competitive in her hobbies and a very independent person. Her proudest achievement was raising and sending her four children to college.

Opal passed away Wednesday July 3, 2002 at Saint Simeon's in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 87 years 11 months and 23 days. She was preceded in death by parents, brothers Clint, Claude, Lloyd, Sister Gladys.

Survived by her children Jack and wife Leah McSorley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Jean and husband Don Paul of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Keith and wife Tommie McSorley of Brenham, Texas; Mike and wife Mary Lea McSorley of Charleston, South Carolina; six Grandchildren, six Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends.

Services will be held July 6, 2002 at 2:00 pm at the Woodland Cemetery Chapel with services officiated by Pastor Dan Edens. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
