Funeral services for Oda L. Burger a longtime resident of Blackburn will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the Sanctuary of the Blackburn Baptist Church. Pastor Allison Dickey as well as Pastor Dean Switzer will officiate with burial following in the Blackburn Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc.

Oda Loyal Burger was born November 7, 1920 in Agra, Oklahoma to John Oda and Lucinda (Johnston) Burger. Oda attended school in Agra as well as the Kendrick, Oklahoma area at the Valley Center School. In 1938 Oda moved with his family Southeast of Blackburn to the family homestead in a wagon. Oda helped his mother and father farm for several years before moving to Enid, Oklahoma. Oda accepted employment driving a truck cross country.

Oda was united in marriage to Jeannie A. (Stone) in Buffalo, Oklahoma on September 20, 1952 and spent their honeymoon in Lincoln, Nebraska. After their marriage Oda and Jeannie made their home in Enid for several months and in February of 1953 moved to the family farm in Blackburn. In the early 1960ís Oda began working for Pawnee County during the winter time driving a road grader. During the summer time Oda would haul hay for himself as well numerous local people. Oda retired from Pawnee County after over 30 years of service.

Oda was a dedicated Wolf Hunter through out his life. He was also a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Wolf Hunters Association. Oda also spent his time driving his horse and mule teams at many of the local events which include numerous parades and the Pawhuska Cavalcade. Oda was also in a commercial driving his team for one of the local banks. Oda has owned many different wagons as well as a stage coach. Oda was a member of the Blackburn First Baptist Church and former member of the Ponca City Trailblazers.

He passed away Sunday September 11, 2005 at the Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma at the age of 84 years 10 months and 4 days. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one son Gary Dale Burger in 1985 at the age of 39, brother Johnnie Burger in Nov. 4, 1988; infant brother named Baby Burger and one sister Opal Smith.

Survived by his wife of nearly 53 years, Jeannie of the home; three daughters Robin Lee Burger of Blackburn, Oklahoma; Linda Steward of Houston, Texas; Karleen Shipp of Houston, Texas; four sisters Alta Compton of Pawnee, Oklahoma; Glenyce Compton of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Gladys Hagle of Blackburn, Oklahoma; Evelyn Goins of Oakdale, California; 28 grandchildren which include Coda Scott, Stormi Scott, Stoney Scott, Lane Scott, Tuff Scott, Rowdy Scott, Sage Burger and Michelle Pitcock; 17 great grandchildren as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers for Oda will be Coda Scott, Dwight Varnell, Paul Fenley, Jim Scott, Butch Slead, and James Marker.
