Norma Jean Morgan

Norma Jean Welch Morgan was born November 27, 1937 to Allen Edward and Juanita (Carter) Welch in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. She was the second of four children, an older sister and two younger brothers. Norma was very studious in her formative years; she received many school awards for her reading skills, as well as multiple 4-H awards for her sewing. In her junior high and high school years she was an amazing basketball player, playing both center and guard, leading her team to the playoffs.
Norma married Ray Morgan on December 31, 1954, and they were together for fifty-three years before his passing on January 29, 2007. They moved to Perryton, Texas in 1965 after relocating from Pampa, Texas. She visited and resided in various other states however, Perryton is the place she always considered home. Her proudest accomplishment was their five children; Marcia, Joyce, Larry, Joe and Cheryl. Norma has been blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, an amazing legacy for a loving mother. Norma was always a great listener offering advice to family and friends no matter the circumstances, never judgmental. She was admired for being so attentive to everyone she loved and cared for.
One of Norma's hobbies was bowling, where she participated in various leagues. The travel leagues she participated in were some of the most memorable and enjoyable. The times and adventures with her teammates were very fulfilling. She was a great bowler, receiving many trophies and awarded pins for her individual and team accomplishments. She was an amazing seamstress, Norma was very creative, from making clothing for her children in their younger years to bringing to life her own ideas and designs. She delighted in working on her own or in group activities. Crafting was another of her skills she was passionate about; she enjoyed sharing her completed projects with family and friends. She also loved crossword puzzles and word searches, mastering both. Her skill and proficiency astounded the family. Her favorite musician was and always would be Elvis; even until the end, every time she would hear his music it would spark her memory.
Norma passed from this life and went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Twin Oaks Manor in Booker, Texas at the age of eighty. In addition to her husband, Norma was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Flora Ozel Welch Blue; two brothers, Thomas Luther Welch and John Edward Welch; and a daughter-in-law, Valerie Diane Morgan.
Norma is survived by her children, Marcia Rock and her husband Phil Darnell of Bedford, Texas, Joyce Grider and her husband Dale of Deming, New Mexico, Larry Morgan and his wife Marlene Bryan, Joe Morgan of Perryton, Texas and Cheryl Morgan of Clarksville, Tennessee; twenty-one grandchildren and thirty-nine great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. A graveside farewell will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Scott Family Cemetery, near Pea Ridge, Arkansas.
