Church services for Mildred Edwards, will be held 9:30 am Saturday, July 12, 2008 in the Sanctuary of the Church of the Nazarene in Hominy, Oklahoma with Rev. Carl Brown officiating. Memorial donation may be made in memory of Mildred to the Church of the Nazarene or a charity of your choice. Interment will be at 3:30 pm in the Cedar Cemetery in Red Oak, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direciton of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland, Oklahoma.
Mildred Corrine Edwards of Hominy, Oklahoma was born December 28, 1936 in Red Oak, Oklahoma the daughter of Houston and Melvina (Colbert) Baker. As a young lady Mildred attended Haskell High School where she later graduated. On June 26th Mildred was united in marriage to Gene Edwards in Skiatook, Oklahoma. They have made their home in Talihina, Sand Springs, Oakland, California and Vallejo, California before making Hominy, Oklahoma their permanent home in 1972. Mrs. Edwards worked at several places including the Dairy Land, Hominy Public Schools as well as Munsingwear as a seamstress. Mildred was also a family provider for many years.
Mrs. Edwards loved being with her children and never met a stranger. She always had a door open to anybody that needed something to eat, drink or just a place to stay.
Mildred Edwards went to be with her Lord and Saviour Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at her home in Hominy, Oklahoma at the age 71. She was preceded in death by her father Houston Baker, Sr., mother Melvina Baker (Colbert), husband Gene, three brothers John, Ralph and Bobby Baker, one sister and four great grandchildren.
Survivors are her six children Glenn Edwards and his wife Linda of Hominy, OK, Sharon Stanley of Hominy, Oklahoma, Charles Edwards and his wife Laura of Greenfield, Missouri, Roy Edwards and his friend Jossie Pebeck of Hominy, Oklahoma, Terry Edwards and his friend Jo Conner of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, Gene Edwards, Jr. and his friend Marsha Burris of Hominy, Oklahoma, one brother Houston Baker, Jr., fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren as well as a host of other relatives and friends that mourn her passing.
