Mary Lou Stanford

Mary Lou Stanford passed from this life on February 14, 2019, at the age of 84 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Mary was born on October 22, 1934, at the family farmhouse in Jennings, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Robert John and Clara Allice (Tattershall) Morris. Mary attended school in Bethal and later Pleasant Grover High School where she graduated. At a young age in Mary’s life her mother Clara passed away, and her father Bob married again and Mary's beloved stepmother Jennie Higgins. The two had a terrific, loving relationship with her mother Jennie whom she appreciated very much. Following her education on June 7, 1952, Mary was united in marriage to John Stanford whom she met at 17, during a basketball game in school. The couple made their initial home in Ellenwood, Kansas where John was working in the oilfields. They later moved to Ellenwood for a couple of years; then they moved their family to Lyons, Kansas before moving to Liberal, Kansas. In 1966, they moved to Purcell, Oklahoma. In the late ’70s to early ’80s, Mary and John opened; John and Mary Plaster Arts and Craft store in Purcell. After several years they closed the business when they moved to Oklahoma City. Mary has continued to reside there since 1988.

Mary worked as a homemaker and was the best. She was a superior mother who performed many tasks that only mothers can do. She was an excellent cook and loved doing those things for her family. Mary had the kindest soul and always saw the good in others and avoided speaking ill of others. She was an avid cheerleader for the underdog because she understood how difficult life could be at times.

Survivors are three children, Carla Dianne Allen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Larry Alan and Kathy Lynn Stanford of Alvin, Texas, Tina Michelle and Michael Carmack of Yukon, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Mary Elaine Moore, Deanna Lynn Barnes, Jamie Renee Green, Lisa Ann Stanford, Trevor Orion Carmack, Seth Michael Carmack, Alyssa Danielle Carmack and Silas John Carmack; ten great-grandchildren, Heather Arvizu, Tyler Moore, Dillon Barnes, Dana Barnes, Samantha Boudreau, Jakob Stanford, Brooklyn Green, Julia LaBlanc , Avery Green and Sadie Green; two great-great-granddaughters, Abbey and Isabella Arvizu as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
