Mary Lou Metheny was born October 18, 1927 in Stillwell, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Thomas E. and Mary Etta Neff. Lou was raised an attended school in Stillwell.

Shortly after the completion of her education, Lou was married to Abner Marshall Metheny on January 1, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. They made their initial home in Stillwell and then moved frequently until finally settling in Cleveland in 1956, raising all four of their children here. In 1960, Lou attended Tulsa Beauty School and after obtaining her hairdressing certification operated a salon in Cleveland for over forty years. She owned and operated Lou's Beauty Shop for nearly thirty-five years and then operated the shop at the Baptist Village until she retired in order to care for her husband.

Lou was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling with them whenever she could. Additionally, she loved working with her hands, crocheting and making quilts.

Lou passed away on Friday, December 9, 2005 at her home in Cleveland at the age of seventy-eight years, one month and twenty-one days. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-three years, Ab on July 6, 1999; two sisters, Polly Grubb and Shirley Segroves; three brothers, Bob, Mike and Tom Neff; and a grandson, Jason Driskell.

Lou is survived by a son, Mickey Alan Metheny of Cleveland, Oklahoma; three daughters, Marsha Brown of Bristow, Oklahoma, Lynne Jones of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Nancy Morgan of Cleveland, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mac Neff of Moore, Oklahoma and Bill Neff of Norman, Oklahoma; two sisters, Elizabeth Thomas of Norman, Oklahoma and Rozell Brewer of Stillwell, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 12, 2005 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. George Boston officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home. Providing musical selections will be Stacy Weaver and serving as pallbearers will be Tracey Weaver, Ryan Weaver, Jake Weaver, Micah Brown, Jason Tyler and Macus Staley. David Weaver will be serving as an honorary pallbearer.
