Mary Ann Kilpatrick

Mary Ann Kilpatrick was born March 12, 1935 in Keystone, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James F. and Mildred Bertie (Sory) Cowan. Mary Ann was raised and attended school in Cleveland, graduating from Cleveland High School in 1943. After graduation, Mary Ann was married to Ed Wren and the couple had four sons, Robert, Fred J., William and Michael. Mary Ann later purchased a laundry on East Cherokee, just off main street and operated it for several years. She later accepted employment at Katyís CafÈ and worked there for many years until the cafÈís closure. Mary Ann was married to Pat F. Kilpatrick on August 27, 1967 in Sedan, Kansas. The couple made their home in Jennings during their marriage as Pat owned and operated barber shops throughout the area. After working in the restaurant business for several years, Mary Ann owned and operated the Poor Boy CafÈ in Jennings for several more years before its closure in 1990. She then accepted a job working at the Aerlex Firework Factory, near Terlton for nearly four years before beginning a new career working in the Baxter Healthcare in Mannford, continuing to work as the company changed ownership to Allegiance Healthcare and later as Cardinal Pharmaceutical. Her combined service in the Mannford facility was nearly fifteen years. Pat preceded her in death on June 4, 2001, just a week after she had retired from her position with Cardinal. She later returned to work for Alan Johnson at his printing company in Cleveland. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; always standing by her children regardless of the circumstances. She was described as a tough, frugal and caring woman who was obedient to the Lord and could at times be a little stubborn. She enjoyed watching game shows on television; especially Wheel of Fortune. She also loved to read and cook and attending the casinos in the area on occasion. Mary Ann passed from this life on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Cushing at the age of seventy-eight. In addition to her husband Pat, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, James F. and Mildred Bertie Cowen; three sons, Robert Wren, Fred J. Wren and William Wren; a sister, Mae Robinson; and a brother, James Cowen. She is survived by four sons, Michael Anthony Wren, Michael Brian Kilpatrick, Shawn Kilpatrick, and Jim Kilpatrick; three daughters, Beverly Dunkle, Kevan Olson, and Dublin Burgess; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gus and Carlece Cowen, Duane and Elaine Cowen; and a sister, Sue and Joe Burgess. A memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Paul Travis officiating.
