Marion Martha Miller Breeden

Marion Martha Miller Breeden, age 91, a resident of Russellville, Arkansas, died Tuesday, September 25, 2001 at Russellville Nursing Center in Russellville, Arkansass. Mrs. Breeden, known as ''Cookie'' by her six grandchildren, was born on September 5, 1910 in Stroud, Oklahoma, to Robert and Jennie Bradley Miller. Both her parents arrived in Oklahoma prior to statehood and her father served for a time as mayor of Stroud. The announcement of her birth in the local newspaper headlined ''Mayor Rejoices.'' She was a 1930 graduate of Stephen's College in Columbia, Missouri and attended Oklahoma A & M University. She married Robert Breeden on January 4, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Breeden sold his interest in the Cleveland newspaper and resigned from the Oklahoma State Senate in 1963 and moved to Oklahoma City. In 1978 the couple moved to Russellville where Mr. Breeden was the owner and publisher of The Courier Democrat. Mrs. Breeden was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Oklahoma and was active in the United Methodist Women and was a communicant at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Russellville.



Marion is survived by her husband of seventy years, Robert H. Breeden of the home; two daughters and their spouses, Carolyn and George McLellan of Russellville, Oklahoma, Nancy and Robert Vaughn of Bethesda, Maryland; six grandchildren, Matthew B. McLellan of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Michael E. McLellan of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Aaron R. McLellan of Norman, Oklahoma, Amanda J. Vaughn of New York, New York, Abigail J. Vaughn of New York, New York and Carolyn E. Vaughn of Betheda, Maryland; and two great grandchildren, Kaersti and Andres McLellan, both of Fort Smith Arkansas.



Graveside funeral services where held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 29, 2001 at the Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, Oklahoma with Rev. Jerry Abbott officiating. Burial was in the Woodland Cemetery under the direction of the Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville, Arkansas.
